Satirical Cinema

I watched Jolly LLB today! It was pretty good! I'd actually tried convincing some of my friends two weeks back to come and watch it with me, but their reaction was "chee". (These same friends wanted to watch 'Ek This Dayan' btw, so from now on, I'm not listening to their advice on what movies to catch)
Anyhow, the movie was pretty good. The songs were unnecessary, but the were short and somewhat funny, so I guess it can be forgiven. The film was hilarious though! I guess you could call it a satirical comedy showing the corruption present in the Indian judicial system, from judges that can be bought to witness tampering et al. It's actually based on a real life incident. Read all about it here- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanjeev_Nanda though this is just the wikipedia page. You should look for news articles if you want more info. Anyhow, there were legal loopholes in the story, and I'm sure a lot of things shown in the movie don't actual happen in a court of law. But maybe the point wasn't to be correct and factual, maybe the point was just to hit the mark with the essence of the movie. Which everyone can see was true. My favourite scene would probably be the auctioning of an SHO's position at the station, where it's difficult to find a "clean image inspector" to make the bid. :)
Exaggerated, but sometimes you need to shout to make yourself heard. :)
I would rate it a 3.5/5 :)

P.S- Cast was brilliant. Even Amrita Rao was fine, though she didn't have much of a role in the film.

So here we go....

I just finished watching the first season of Gossip Girl . And I actually really loved it! It's interesting and not at all shallow like I thought it'd be and with much lesser cheesy dialogues than the 6th season that's on air. And I love the characters, and I practically cry in each episode! Well, anyway, I finished off all the 18 episodes in just 3-4 days, which is very ..um...efficient? and loyal of me. Reminds me of the race-against-time to finish off 8 seasons of Grey's Anatomy in one go two years back, right before joining cal. I'd still say the whole 'xoxo' thing blows me off everytime, but I find myself more and more tuned into the whole drama of the series.

Gonna start off Season 2 now! :D hehe
Cya!

Looking forward to this summer....

I saw this trailer and I immediately liked it. It looks young, fresh....exciting. And I love Deepika's geeky look! She looks gorgeous in those thick frames, and even when she sheds those and dons a slinky blue saree, she still looks stunning. The title though....did they have to borrow it from an old hindi song....again?! The two songs that I've heard so far are quite nice and catchy. Balam Pichkari and Battameez Dil. So yeah...I'm really looking forward to this movie...I hope it doesn't disappoint...

Btw, Deepika still cracks in the emotional scenes, like at the end of the trailer...In all these years, she hasn't learnt to modulate her voice...But I still love her! :)

Music for the Ears...

These days you listen to the radio or some music channel on the tv, and it is sorely disappointing. I don't know what has happened to good lyricists. Good composers too for that matter. They think they can just keep churning out the same kind of techno-electronica party number, and we'll keep lapping it up. Or the one sad/romantic Mohit Chauhan/Atif Aslam type ballard will become a huge hit. Well, it's not gonna happen anymore. We demand some quality! Latest example, is this new song I heard on the idiot box. The lyrics are actually worse than the hookah bar song! And I thought that wasn't possible.
Don't believe me? Watch the video for yourself-

Monday bura, Tuesday bura....
Hai tu mere aaj keplan mein, Aur main tere plan mein....

And then it goes on with other insipid lyrics with words like 'iss qadar' and whatnot...

You get my drift?
Add to that a fat Sonakshi Sinha prancing around on the screen, and it's sheer torture to the eyes and the ears....

And I thought 'Tera pyaar pyaar pyaar, Hookah Bar' was bad enough....I mean, what kind of weird analogy is that? Your love is like a hookah bar for me honey.... Eh? No, thank you.

How can we talk about bad lyrics without mentioning Ishq Wala Love? Thankfully, the Q-tiyapa parody version 'Gaana Wala Song' handled that with ease. You're tempted to listen to it again, aren't you? Well, here goes-

The "female" part takes the cake! ;D
But seriously, the state of affairs of the Indian music industry makes me Dukh Wala Sad....:/

Speaking of new songs, there are a few that I like...like the 'Dhak Dhak Karne Laga' from Nautanki Sala, and 'Na Jaane Kahan Se Aya Hai' from I, Me aur Main.

But in all honesty, I like these songs because I like the originals quite a lot. Dhak Dhak atleast sounds kinda different and new, because of the singer's voice maybe...But Na Jaane....I was at first surprised that they changed the gender , and secondly, I just thought...why? And the lyrics are no better..."Who the sexy boy? Eceryone wants you. Who the sexy boy? Everyone needs you. ...Bla bla bla everybody loves you". I mean, at least learn some grammar while you're at it. And whatever happened to originality?! :(

Why make a mish-mash of good ol' songs, add some techno jazz and feed them to us on a platter like it's the Next Big Thing? *sigh*...Maybe I'm being a bit over dramatic here, but it really. pisses. me. off.

Another thing that pisses me off- Film titles. But I'll write about that in another post. Would be kind of a digression here

See ya, I'm gonna go listen to the radio while I pack my bags. Here's to hoping I hear something good. :)

As good as this-

Well, we can hope right? ;)

The End is Here

So, today I will watch the season 2 finale of Suits- this god-awesome show about lawyers. Now, I have a lot of friends who've all finished watching the two seasons way before me, and the way theyve built it up, the season finale is supposed to be mind-blowingly-breath-takingly-flame-throwingly awesome (yeah, that last one was my very own creation :P). I just hope it lives up to the hype. Will keep you posted. :) This last one I wanna watch undisturbed, at one go!
Tata!
Going to the mall to shop now. AND-
Good Friday.

And it begins!

So....I'm back. Been at home for a week now actually. Exactly 7 days. And I've been meaning to write this post every single day since last Monday. But such is life. And such are my powers of procrastination. :) I surpass myself, really. :)
Anyhowww....It's good to be back! And the mind-numbing TV-watching has already started! In fact, that's all I did the first day I was back. Slept for some 4.5 hours straight, then promptly switched on the telly and saw one movie after another after another....and you get the drift....
The next day, I decided to continue reading Anuja Chauhan's third. I'd read some 40 pages of it when I was here i n February for my parents' anniversary. 'Those Pricey Thakur Girls'....It was nice. I was highly interested at first, but then it started to drag on for too long. There were many instances when I felt it was about to end, but I'd only gotten halfway through. :P Dylan, the male protagonist, as usual is dishy...But I think he's the only part of the book that I really really liked. Some of the characters were just too weird, and the story itself is very long-winding and convoluted. The romance is a very cliched- misunderstanding after misunderstanding, ego-clashes, reconciliation drama. I would expect more out of Chauhan. The female protagonist, Debjani, is quite silly most of the times, and there are times that I don't like what she is doing at all. Her little sister, Eshwari, is quite a pleasing and interesting character actually. Anyway, all in all, I liked the book, but didn't think too much of it. The end, especially, became a little too filmy, and there were random bits that were left loosely untied...:/
Buckle up. Anuja Chauhan! Your fans are waiting for another Zoya-Bittora kind of magic to be created again! :)

Alright, so enough about that. I'll give you a list o movies I've been watching this past week. It won't be exhaustive, but I'll try. I watched Filhaal (the Sushmita Sen-Tabu one). It got uite boring towards the 2nd half. Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar! :D The Clash of the Titans, The Dark Knight, A Few Good Men and so on and so forth. There were many others, but I can't remember right now. Mind numbing TV watching like I said.

As for the idiot box, these days I've started watching Samantha Who? First couple of times I tried to watch it, I'd missed the beginning of the episode, and saw only a couple of minutes in the middle, and I got bored. But then I started watching it properly, and it's quite nice and funny. :) You gotta love her quirky antics.
Then there's Pretty Little Liars which I tried to watch. I have some seasons on my hard drive, but I randomly watched whatever season they're showing on Zee Cafe right now. Difficult to unnerstand. :P

One Tree Hill. Cause I used to love it back in 2005. But it seems so childish and twisted now.
Californication. Interesting and fun. Not sure what episode they show when, because middle of the week, it seemed like we were in some 2nd/3rd season, but then they started off with the first episode again (at least, what to me seemed like the first episode).
Fabulous Cakes on TLC. 'Nuff said.
Simpsons when I'm randomly channel surfing.
Suits on my hard disk. It's awesome. Two thumbs up :)
Oh yeah. And Gossip Girl. Now I know I'd vowed to myself, that I'd never stoop so low as to actually watch this show, but I was curious. And a girl's gotta pass the time right? So I did watch it. Or try to. Seasons 5&6 are on right now. And I CANNOT, for the life of me, decipher what is going on. :| [I did watch a bit earlier as well, in 2010/11, when I used to come back from college, and there was nothing else on, while I ate my lunch]. Yes, I have crossed over to the dark side, but hey, now at least I can critique it well. :) Another thing I was pondering about- All these shows are so similar!! Practically the same really. Just with diiferent casts. :P
Oh, I also watch Anger Management from time to time.
I came across this interestingly titled show called 'Rude Boy Food' on TLC yesterday and I'm thinking of starting that. I want to undertake some cooking this summer. Hehehe. Will keep you updated.

So right now, I got so bored, that I finally decided to complete this long-pending-blog-post.

More later. Cya.

I did read as well. :P
